About Mark's Honey Bees

A passion for bees, a commitment to quality, and a love for our local community.

Our Story

From Hobby to Passion

What started as a single backyard hive has grown into a full-fledged beekeeping operation serving the El Dorado Hills community and beyond. Like many beekeepers, the journey began with curiosity—a fascination with these incredible insects and the vital role they play in our ecosystem.

Over the years, that single hive multiplied. Learning came through hands-on experience, mentorship from seasoned beekeepers, and countless hours observing the complex social world inside each colony. Today, Mark's Honey Bees maintains multiple apiaries across the El Dorado County foothills.

Our philosophy is simple: healthy bees produce great honey. We prioritize colony health using sustainable practices, minimal treatments, and careful management that works with the bees' natural behaviors rather than against them.

What We Believe In

Our values guide everything we do, from hive management to customer service.

Bee-First Approach

Healthy, happy bees are productive bees. We make management decisions based on what's best for the colony, not just what's convenient. This means sustainable practices, minimal interventions, and respect for the bees' natural cycles.

Local Focus

We're proud to be part of the El Dorado Hills community. Our honey reflects the unique terroir of our region—the wildflowers, the oak woodlands, the foothill climate. We believe local food strengthens local communities.

Quality Over Quantity

We don't mass-produce. Our honey is harvested in small batches, minimally processed, and never blended with honey from other sources. What you get is pure, raw honey exactly as the bees made it.

Education & Sharing

Beekeeping has taught us so much, and we love sharing that knowledge. Whether it's helping a first-time beekeeper get started or explaining to a curious neighbor why that swarm appeared, we're always happy to talk bees.

Our Apiaries

Our hives are located throughout the El Dorado County foothills, each site chosen for its unique forage and environment.

El Dorado Hills

Our home base, surrounded by oak woodlands and wildflower meadows.

Shingle Springs

Higher elevation sites with manzanita, toyon, and spring wildflowers.

Seasonal Sites

We move some hives seasonally to follow the bloom and support local farms.
